Summer Roses

We were drunk on summer love and high from heat,
Two kids against the world on a solidified team.
You pulled me into something so deep that I drowned.
I look back and maybe I could regret this now.

Your love became soft as thorns until I bled
Just a white rose stained out of innocence.
I've moved forward into a different world since.
I'm what you have made me, hardened from your pretense.

Did you ever think I'd become like this?
I've come so far. The mirror shows another reflection
that you couldn’t even recognize.
This rose froze into a different disguise.

Look at me now living the life you never thought.
Look at me now an innocent lost.
Don’t worry though, I’ve found another.
He’ll never know the real me you uncovered.

I hang on tight just so he won’t let go
In fear of the hurt and pain of an ending blow.
But this is nice and kind and caring, adored.
Every time I think of our time I hold tight just a little more.

We have to know we can never repeat the past.
Summer fades and roses never last.
I’m holding onto him and it’s so pretty,
Nothing’s ever beautiful anymore in pity.

The reflection shines a new outlook through.
We harden our ways as days show truth.
Thank you for this tainted rose.
Thank you for the new world I know.

There’s so much left unsaid and unforgiven.
I’ll never know all in your mind you’ve hidden.
It was beautiful but time doesn’t regress.
I’m holding it, hoping you don’t forget.

Stranger

I've got you wrapped around my finger.
I've sealed the letter, you've done the deed.
I'm holding the gun but you'll pull the trigger.
You'd take out any enemy just for me.

I wasn't always this way, you gotta believe.
I've just become what they've made me.

Now I'm crossing over lines like there's no limit.
I'm playing black cards to get to the finish.
I'll powder my lips, take your hand on my hips
Sway back and forth til you're under my spell.
Be prepared to dance with danger.
You're walking thin lines for the price a stranger.

Drink you up with my tantalizing eyes
Get lost in the sea of my innocent disguise
I'll look like the rose but be the thorn underneath
The beautiful colors are merely evil's sheath

My lies breath glittered truths to what I say.
I'll wrap you around and around again.
It's manipulation, now you're playing my game.

You’re sure to follow me down to deep depths
You can cry for mercy but there’s none left.
I’ll powder my lips, take your hand on my hips
Sway back and forth til you're under my spell.
Be prepared to dance with danger.
You're walking thin lines for the price a stranger.
