Woods

We're living in different lives,
Grown up and out of sights.
Falling into the same puzzle
Pattern but the trouble's
We can't seem to fit this time.
And we're still forcing it.

We're not the people we knew then,
Coming out of the woods of innocence.
Standing on a desert rain cloud
Your face is a beautiful mirage now.
I feel you’re falling out.

You’re standing on the other side
Of this glass, your hand on mine.
We don’t breathe each other’s air,
Suffocating on hopes and despair.
Are you feeling it?

We’ll play pretend and move on.
There’s always one who’s strong.
Taking it softer in translation,
Hanging on threads of displacement.
Who is strong?

Maybe it’s only the weak who survive.
We’ve grown up, easier out of sights.
We played alone in those woods.
Now we’ll never be back, never could.
But never doesn’t last.

Fate and All Things in Reason

You said it in words as soft as sleep,
But they cut like a knife the way I keep
Playing them over inside of my head,
Hoping and wishing of others instead.

Awaken from a dreamland unattained.
We both knew it would end this way.
Too long, I stood calling from so far.
Kept my distance, but the fall was hard.

We're dancing in stardust alone most nights.
We were really always alone in those strides.
We took one step closer but so far away.
Tantalus never got the fruit he craved.

I believe in fate and all things in reason.
We'll meet again in future seasons,
If all ends well and it's meant to be.
It's not goodbye for you and me.

Waves

The waves wash over the sands of the beach, tickling the grains of salt and turning over the shells.  It’s warm today - both in the water and on the land.  The sun is yellow like the lemonade in my hand.  Nothing can go wrong.
Suddenly a gray cloud swims over the sun and a breeze moves in.  I hold onto my floppy sun-hat.  The birds are flying back into the woods, but I can’t seem to follow.  Before I know it, the waves are making towers towards the air.  They fall down with a slap to the ground.  I’m falling in tune with them.
Out in the middle, lightening kisses the water.  It moves closer and closer with its fraternal twin, thunder, following close behind.  A sweet kiss like death.
The sky is black like night even though it’s 2pm.  It swallows me up and pulls me even closer.  I am one with my surroundings.  I am the clouds flying overhead.  The hard waves slapping down on the fragile earth.  I am the dark sky, only lighting up with sudden bolts of electricity.  The thunder, shouting at the loudest possible volume.
I am everything and it is me. We are one.  We are what you made me.

The Moonless Night

The sweetness drops like honeydew on a moonless night.
Flown far to another world away from common sight.
The grounds are different, but it's still eye to eye.
How wonderfully passionate we've become to life.

It's a different language no one else can quite understand.
They don't have the patience or the dreams we can.
Maybe they'll think we're insane and lock us in high towers,
But we're still painting pretty things with our God-given powers.

We understand and know we can change the world forever.
We'll just take them through the gates to see our own endeavors.
Let's paint the town with post cards from where we've been
And we'll fly away beyond the moonless night to the never-end.
